The O*NET program is the nation's primary source of occupational information, created for the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, by the National Center for O*NET Development. It has a massive database that is continuously updated and allows you to find similarities between various careers, or group career searches by industry, areas of skill, etc.
CareerOneStop.org
If you're looking for one place that features a suite of services like those mentioned above, the aptly named CareerOneStop.org is the place for you. It features a variety of web-based products funded and developed by the U.S. Department of Labor. It includes America's Career InfoNet and America's Service Locator. Each tool offers unique solutions for the increasing demands of today's labor market to meet the specialized needs of jobseekers, employers, and the workforce and education communities.
The Job Hunter's Survival Guide by Richard N. Bolles
