Per this article at HuffingtonPost.com and stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are only enough open jobs for 1 out of every 5 unemployed Americans.
You don’t have to be a mathematician to know those odds aren’t great.
It’s pretty clear the “good old days” of falling into a job out of luck are over. So what can you do to separate yourself from everyone else?
You have to know what you deliver that no one else can, and then be good at telling a compelling story about that value. Then you need a clear target as to who to share that value with, then get to that target through a career marketing plan (networking, etc.) If you lack the development and implantations of just one of these tools, you’re more than likely going to be amongst the 4 out of 5 who don’t get the job!
I’m not trying to be all gloom and doom – but I can’t stress enough how important it is that you move with intention, having a very very clear direction and knowledge of the unique value you offer.
