Inspiration From a Real Life Job Search Story

Jessica Miller-Merrell has been there. “Where”, you ask? Where many of you are quite possibly right now: in the thick of an unpromising job search.

On her blog, Blogging4jobs.com, Jessica shares the story of her husband’s unexpected job loss right before the birth of their first baby. She talks about the worry. The planning. The frustration of doing everything “right”, but not getting results. Not to mention other personal tragedies that made a hard situation feel almost impossible.

Hearing her family’s career transition story reminded me of my own (which you can read via this blog entry from last year). And it also reminded me just how powerful hearing someone else’s inspiring story can be. Just knowing that another person has felt what you’re feeling makes you feel less isolated, plus gives you hope because you know that they had a happy ending…which means you can, too.

I highly recommend you read Jessica’s story here, and let me know which parts of it resonate most with you!

  • David,

I’m glad that my blog post has inspired others and I’m honored you choose to share it with your community. Job seekers or families that have been impacted by unemployment often keep quite instead of sharing their stories with others. I think this is because we are proud and private people. I know that was true for me.

    Thanks for mentioning me here!

    Jessica Miller-Merrell

I think it’s important for professionals to share information as well as the struggles and successes in our own lives and also in the lives of our clients. I am focused on the greater good of our community and how we can create value to those that might not ever use our professional services. Great article!
