“Your attitude is a combination of your thinking, your emotions, your way of viewing events and circumstances around you, and your perspective. Your attitude is what you do and how you respond to the things that occur in your life. Without question, attitude is a determining factor in our success or failure. Attitude is a critical ingredient in the result that you will create in life. It is the key that starts your magnificent machinery and puts it into action. As I will say, ‘Attitudes are much more important than facts,’ and I know am right. Attitudes make the difference in success or failure.”

The above snippet is from an article titled, “I’ve Got a New Changed Attitude!” and appeared in Cocorioko, Sierra Leone’s biggest and most widely read newspaper. Seeing that it comes from someone in Sierra Leone makes it all the more powerful to me.

I see this another great reminder that we can control our own attitude and respond rather than react to what life throws at us, be it career transition or other life changes.

This article also works hand-in-hand with the Jillian Michaels book I reviewed about pushing through your fear so that your attitude and outlook gives you the result you want!

  • The quote below always comes to mind when I talk with job seekers who say, “I’m no good at that,’ or ‘I have no idea where to begin.’

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
    — Eleanor Roosevelt (You Learn by Living)

Eleanor and Jillian have a lot in common – two tough, smart women.
