I get this question all the time, and usually the person asking me is really hoping I say anytime but “now.”
Well I hate to burst your bubble, but the answer is always NOW!
Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring – it doesn’t matter. Companies are always looking for good people, even if they’re not hiring. Even if there were one season that has less opportunity than others, it’s still essential that you keep networking so that you’re primed and positioned for opportunities that come with the NEXT season.
As a Career Coach, this is something I help clients with all the time. We recognize together when the market is cold and use that time to our advantage to set them up for success – and a big part of that is and will always be continual networking engagement.
I recently stumbled across a blog post titled 3 Reasons Why Your Job Search Can’t Take a Summer Vacation. It has great insight into why you can’t stop networking when you think “everyone else is taking time off.” But I would suggest that you don’t just think this way during the summer. Embrace this mindset year-round.
