It’s okay – starting something new in your career is scary.
You don’t need to be embarrassed or worried if you fear a new work experience, be it a new job or a new responsibility that’s been added to your current role.
I recently came across a blog post on this topic that nails why fear and change go hand-in-hand:
…what we are really scared of is the failure of our actions. Life’s lessons will tell you that there never is a guarantee for success in any decision you make. It always comes down to a series of calculated risks and educated guesses… nothing more and nothing less. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. It’s the risk we take, and the fear comes from the uncertainty from the lack of any kind of guarantee.
So how do we get over this fear? The best we can do is know and trust ourselves. By understanding what we’re best at and seeking security in past successes, we can find confidence. And while the fear may never go away, it is something that can be controlled.
