It’s one of the things I preach the most – and is the hardest to make a reality: Staying positive during a trying job search. I’ve met with so many individuals over the years who know they need to stay positive during their job search trials.

But knowing and doing are very different things.

That’s why I want to share this blog post by Holly Newman Greenburg titled “Job Huntin’ In The Rain: How To Stay Positive and Optimistic During a Job Search,” in which she shares first-hand how she learned to stay positive during a job search spanning 3+ months.

Sometimes it just helps to hear someone else’s story. To hear what they went through. To hear how they dealt with the disappointments. The “almost, but no cigar” situations. And she does a very good job of identifying action points on how to keep your spirits up, even when the outcomes are low.

Read the article – and if you’ve ever been in a long job search, please share what you dealt with emotionally, and what you’d do differently if you had to do it again.

Unfortunately, my job search lasted much longer than 3 months, but to get through it, I did a lot of the things Holly suggests in the article. I joined GO! Network and volunteered on a couple of committees that helped keep me busy. I also got into yoga and listened to a lot of of uplifting and inspirational music. It is much easier said than done, but like with any trial in life a positive attitude and outlook is half the battle.
